  • Heavens, it’ll take me all weekend to visit you all. I have not forgotten any of you, illness and work make me sleepy, but on this three days off I’ll try and read (carefully, no skipping) all you have written since my last visit to your site.

    Meanwhile on my The_Clowne_from_Clown
site I have gone back to my last novel but updated it and might put it all onto the internet.

One new poem first by Charlie.

    ———

    “Going Straight”

    “Go on, do it.

    Follow a life going straight

    Don’t give way to temptation

Do not go back to jail

    Life is not monopoly

You don’t have to throw a dice”.

    Well they tried to go

    On the straight and narrow

    A lot of them did,

    But it was never easy,

    Never easy for an ex-con

To get a job or keep it

Once their criminal record came out.

Hard for them to get a flat

Impossible for them to get a loan.

They would try to scrape a living

    Try and be honest

Until an old mate rings up

    Offering them an “easy” job.

As we catch the same old crooks

Not all of us coppers say

    “We knew you’ll be back.”

Many of us felt sorry for the men

To whom no one gave a chance

    To go straight

    Except straight back to jail

At the roll of a dice.

    “Death of a dragon”

    _______________________________________

    You said that tomorrow

    Was a continuation of today;

That my breath will still fire,

    My pulse still shine,

Yet now I die, and tomorrow is

    Lies. All lies.

    Every morning I wake

    Tomorrow came,

    But now dusk falls

    And there is only yesterday.

    They said tomorrow

    Was a continuation of today

    The same warm fist

The same magic eyes of mine

    Will burst forth:

But now I die, and tomorrow is

    Lies. All Lies.

    You broke my tomorrow

    Burnt it in shreds

    When I had been happy

firing the temper of your heart.

    But now I flame no more, no more;

    And water cruel my eyes,

You went and you stole tomorrow,

    And left lies. All lies.

  • Do you happen to have an axe at hand?

  • very nice…both of them. wonderful work sir.

  • great poems, I like the first one where some people never do get a break or a chance to catch up, get out of the pit or whatever term would fit the ruts they are in..  if no one gives them a break- things never change for them  and like was said – their record gets out, it is sad and unfair for many of them..

  • Charlie’s poem reminds me of an old TV show- Baretta. “Don’t do the crime if you can’t do the time, yeah (don’t do it)!”

  • Rest easy and be well.  (((hugs)))

  • thank you so much for the compliment on my poem…I am delighted that you enjoyed it!

RYC: When i went to England around Dorset county, those seagulls can sure deafen one’s hearing

  • I do believe you were the ONLY person to pick out the “oral sex” aspect of that particular poem.  oh man after my own heart.  :)

  • Oh jazz is wonderful too.  I grew up right next door to The Big Easy.  I’ve had an appreciation for it since I was a young child.  Good stuff.  But I’m just generally a huge music fanatic.

  • I apologize for not having been around much of lately, but I do hope you are doing well. The poetry is outstanding, as always (especially the “Lies” one)!

Have a great week and I’ll talk to you again soon!

  • Both were fantastic, but Death Of A Dragon was really powerful and hits the soul hard. Fierce and desolate…..a great write. Keep this up…have a good week ahead pls.

Tell the birds there is a treat waiting for them on FCBR.

  • join my blogring. darkheights. you’ve visited me and commented about the net war. It happened and theirs one to be put in place. Things are supposed to get better on the net but I think with your poetic skills everyone can calm down. think about it.

  • Sorry, I should have been more clear. I meant that sometimes poetry, in general, is tiring, or maybe tiresome would be the better word… even music gets that way too, but not as often. sometimes the world of art seems irrelevant… on a particularly bad day. It’s only my idiosyncrasy, though, and no reflection of your work.

  • And to think that the most of the people thar are in jail should not be there….If i was a prophet I will say: one day there will bo no more jails.
Tomorrow does not exist, we are living at the edge pf a emptiness.
You poetry is very to the point.
    Thanks for writing it.

  • Hmmm… funny you should know that they were men/women bathrooms when no women were pictured using them. Anything you would like to tell us, Pineapple?

  • Cheese………Who woulda thunk it?? Anywhoo Happy Christmas if you’re not a Buddhist, then.

  • … i just love your work … i’m sorry i haven’t been commenting much lately … busy as all get out around here … hope you’re well …

  • Being a “member” of the Court of King Arthur Pendragon, I have an unwavering respect for dragons.  By the Graces of the Creator and the Light of the World; in the Hopes of my Redemption, my Salvation, and my Rebirth: I swear to remain loyal to your Name(s) and have you as a True Friend for the Rest of our Days.  I won’t steal your Tomorrows and/or leave you with any lies.  I am a firm believer in giving second chances, especially since I’m One of the few Blessed Souls that’s been given second chances after unrelated transgressions to not make the same mistake twice.  I’m here to assist in the Preservation of anyone’s earned Integrity and honoring Existence.  I salute your glorious poetry, my Lord Pineapple.  Obviously, I took the “Death of a Dragon” to heart the most.  I’ll always be honored to know you.

  • I hope you had a nice three days off.  You deserved it.  Are your spirits better?  I love the first one.  It is so sadly true.

  • I hope you are feeling better now

  • Did you enjoy your weekend?? I do hope so. I did for reasons I will email you later. I am going to use your poems as a start of something on my own. I just wrote a “rhyming” one that makes me want to heave so I won’t try any more of those.

  • hi Terry. mm, i like the dragon one. haha this is an insanely insightful comment, by the way.

    -sarah

  • wonderful!

  • The three Sarahs are more than welcome here at Christmas.  But be forewarned!!  We are not allowed any pets here–so sorry, no cats.  If you can make do with ham, barbecue sandwiches, and perhaps a couple naughty grandchildren you can have your fill!!

  • Sorry you aren’t feeling well.

You still managed to do a great post.

    I especially like “Going Straight”

  • Really super your Charlie the Copper “Going Straight”.  I know a lot of it has to have hit the nail on the head.

The dragon, like others of non human origin, most don’t have a real chance.  How could they when people suffer a lot of the same from people.

  • Nobody can take tomorrow from you, if first you take it for yourself. You are the master of your destiny. No one else. Get well soon.

  • good job on all of them…altho i especially enjoyed the first one. :o )
