  • At the death of the Pope

    I gave a service

For the catholics of this small town,

    Inviting over

    A retired priest.

    For God is God

    In all our eyes

And sod what anyone else thinks.

    Reverend Tobias Trontby †

Time to eat my cucumber sandwiches

On the top of Mam Tor.

    This is a beautiful place

    When the sun is shining.

“‘lo Wevvie Tooobee!” shouts a tiny girl

As her parents come over to chat.

Half of Shawthwaite comes up here,

    It’s our local park,

In spite of the long steep climb to the summit.

From here one can see miles

Including the whole of the small town.

God could not have brought me to teach His word

    In a more beautiful place.

    The Reverend Tobias Trontby †

    TEXT 196:

i wrote inside Steve Martin’s car “i love you Steve”. I don’t, can’t stand the man, he appeared as the spider in the series the spider and the fly about a fly being caught by a spider and having to “spin” (no i am not making this up) a story that would make the spider allow the fly to go. anyway i sat through one such programme where the actual ghost of jack benny came arm in arm with a younger whatshername, the one in that film about, about you know, about love inside a toilet bowl, remember she was brush, forgot who played the crap, might have been john wayne, i know betty gable anyway Steve was the second actor to play this part, the first one was that one in the movie where the two candy-bars in the shop had a wager which one would be brought first, and was the winner, well loser for instead of being eaten by a pretty woman was eaten by a dog when a child scared of the candy bar saying “please give me to your mummy” threw it down and it was ate by this dirty great dog of no pedigree played by that woman who was in the film about two walking sticks in a hat stand in a dinner for some scottish highland games held in a hall in ohio to save money, there were all those ghastly mock-scottish accents even worse than that actor who played james bond, not sean but that big fat girl of eleven who ate up the villians in one meal, the film was called “you are only eaten once” anyway Steve Martin tried to sue me but when he found out i was a lamppost on the Old Kent Road, outside a hajal chippy that used to be the left breast of that woman who played a pencil next to the actor who played an eraser who had rubbed off that actor who was a plastic flower in the film held inside a mail box on 51st street, Steve gave up and told the story to the spider who ate him

serve the bugger right I say.

It was the first time the sun had shone for days,

we should have in reality, been happy.

Msr’s Derevox’s son was working in the fields,

    when they led him away.

    He was fourteen.

They don’t do it because they see us as a threat,

they do it for a bit of fun.

They just fancied shooting a boy in the head,

a boy who had never touched a gun.

The last time they came they raped a young mother,

ten of them, one after another.

    She hung herself in disgrace.

Not that they would have cared.

After all, we are just savages to them…

Beautiful and sad poetry from a broken hearted genius, for that is what she is, I set my reputation  that dancing_pen will one day be a famous American poet. Buy her books at   http://www.lulu.com/dancing_pen

ps I wrote the four pieces straight out of my head in one hour, correcting only 4 typos and adding a period!

  • This Pope must have been real great to get the Rev.Tobias and Sophie aged nine to write some poetry for him.

  • That second poem is amazing.

  • Rev. Toby rocks… Wish more ministers of the gospel were following his lead.

    Jim

  • A great read, today. I am not cathlic (or even religious), but I saw love in the pope’s eyes. Too bad Bush couldn’t have gotten lessons from the man ………..

  • Liked the first poem. The second one, that was a poem right? My mind is lagging behind so I apologize.

  • Ah, these are just wonderful. You have been really at it, just pouring out more amazing stories. I just love the way you write.
    Be well Terry

  • Love the first piece, and agree completely with the good Reverend.

  • Texts are (or are supposed to be!) Prose poems. They confuse though, for example my American lit agent wanted none of them in my book!

  • I saw on the news that Prince Charles is postponing his marriage due to the death of Pope John Paul II. Ironic, isn’t it, that his great great great grandfather beheaded his wives instead of divorcing them and created a whole new church to replace the Catholic one. I would rather have one truely grieving person pay tribute to my death than a thousand for the sake of my reputation.

  • very nice    the world seems  to be overrun  with German men  now  according  to these standards   re  critism    i writr from the top of my flamin’ white head  & go back & clean ‘em up later    thank yuou lord  for reading so diligently  always  magi

  • When I first started reading Text 196, I thought it sounded either like some of the odd dreams I have sometime, or something from a drug induced state. (Not that I know about that  first hand–never tried the stuff). Then I read about Horace Smith afterwards, and was pleased to see that one of my ideas was right!

By the way, I like the new profile pic.  It is a good, clear pic of you.  Good to know just what you look like!  Are you still planning your Texas trip?

  • i don’t really mind knowing. i think it’s funny in a lot of ways. of corse girls do it too. usually they’ll go with a fantasy in their heads though.

  • I feel so honored that you would rave about my prose like that! Your writings are never ending, your well spring of creativity must run deep. I love Tobias’ poem especially:

    For God is God
    in all our eyes
And sod what anyone else thinks.

  • All in one hour and only 4 typos? Nice Terry. Even your speed poetry is wonderful.

  • Hey my wonderful LordP,  sorry but I did not mean YOU when I wrote that disclaimer about those who visit and do not speak. You have left me enough marks on your most welcomed visits! :}

It was meant for those who visit frequently  but as silent voyeur… ( just playing with words =] )

I wil be changing a new xanga skin as this skin screws my alignment and font up.

Ahhh… if only, if only the Pope read that 1st poem, he would be moved to tears!

Whoa, the harshness of the second write! Though, it happens… in fact I was just discussing with a friend the hideous reality of this world..sometimes… and we came across something that was akin to your last poem.  You framed reality into lovely art, LordP…

    Peace,

    E

  • I like the Rev’s poems today; the poem by Jacques gave me a shudder. I didn’t get the whole Steve Martin text thing, but I see it is because I have not had any of that leaf. It might have made more sense if I had been high. :)

  • Beautiful would not be the word to describe the last poem.  Gripping, perhaps ?  It’s quite effective.

  • Of course I like the Rev Toby ones but – did he use a bad word?

The text made my brain go numb and my eyes cross, so I couldn’t get all the way through it.  Maybe some of that stuff he had was catching!

    Disturbing images in the last.

  • “The last time they came they raped a young mother,
ten of them, one after another.
    She hung herself in disgrace.”

reading this reminds me of the rape cases that are increasing here at my place. Last week, one girl was being gang raped and murdered. This week, the same thing happened.

    oh what is happening.

I would love to check out your book.
Sir, you are an amazing writer.

    *smile*

  • Please share your secrets of overcoming the block! I am miserable in having my mind void of any poetic words to write…

    P.S.: Awesome write as always!

  • {{{{{{{{{{{{{{{Terry}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}} As always you’re writing and your kindness touch my heart. Btw, books on their way.

  • Dear Terry,

First, I will acknowledge that this is the first time I’ve actually posted two comments in a row on this blog. This means I’m catching up with how to “play the comments” game, however without spending hours on the computer doing nothing but. Glad the Rev. has a Pope Poem.

    “For God is God
    In all our eyes
And sod what anyone else thinks.”

Here is one I cooked up a long time ago:

    “God Proved Himself to Me”
    Poetry by Michael F. Nyiri
    Dec. 17, 1973 12:00 noon

Your house is a sanctuary, as is the very mind:
Being is a sanctuary for others, as well as self.
I am a mindless innocent, as are all others
Redeeming values are valueless to some
I cannot live without the touch
of God, be it through a
    Spiritual Revelation,
    Or simply by a touch
    of someone who cares.
    Bibles, notebooks,
    Sunday Choirs are
    meaningless without
    a true awareness
    of Spirit, a thorough
    knowledge of you own
    Personal God, no matter who
He may be. My Prayers and
    Yours may have different words,
But they are essentially the same
Prayer. My God and yours may have
Different names, but they are certainly
The same God. Others will try to
convince, but they might only be
    trying to convince themselves.
As long as we know God
As long as we care, we
    are saved, and we
    need no further
    .Proof.

St. Matthew Chapter 7, Verses 1-5
    Peace

I really like that you are “promoting” Margot’s poetry, which is very special indeed.

Michael F. Nyiri, poet, philosopher, fool

  • ha! great stuff.

  • I am always amzed by your talents! Thank you for such a great post! Enjoy your hump day!

  • dancing_pen has great poetry…so do you, in fact. the last poem is so sad

  • your second poem rings true for me terry :) thanks :)

  • Thank you very much for your comment!  : )  Sorry it is a little late to respond.  I love to read your writings as well.

  • I like as many the first short but meaningful poem .

About the second at reading this :” God could not have brought me to teach His word In a more beautiful place.” I think of the book of Jonas in the Bible . Jonas from a hill looks at Ninive where he had been forced to bring God ‘ s Word . And he is angry because the words of God are listened by the inhabitants of Ninive who convert themselves . He thought those sinners  had to be punish ! And not !

About the last poem , are they only German men nowadays ?

    In friendship

    Michel

  • Today, ends an era. The Pope is buried and the Sarah’s are saying goodbye.

  • ryc: i put a longer piece up on my blog just for you ~ jack

  • Your poetry really does make my xanga day
    ~V

  • A man notices a blonde sucking on the bottom of a Coke can. Curious, he asks her what she’s doing. “Duh! It says for best taste drink by date on the bottom.”

  • Terry this was some impressive work!  MY goodness.  In just one hour?  So much variety sitting in that head of yours.  There are so many wonderful ideas that need to be said.  Why not that they be said by a person like you who has such a rich imagination and such a way with putting the ideas down on screen?  I’m glad you’re here.  I have missed reading you.  And yes, you are a nutter.  I’ve been away taking care of myself.  I’m coming ’round.

  • Although I did not always agree with the Pope he was a great man in his own right

  • when i said my bras are getting bigger it’s because my boobs are getting smaller!!!  LOL!  I’ve lost a LOT of weight since I’ve been ill.  I was 143 pounds.  Now I’m 134.  That all happened in 2 weeks’ time
